IN Exhibition
If automatics ?
Call this era what you will, the "second age", the 3rd or 4th industrial revolution, the delegation of tasks to machines has become massively widespread. Our habits, customs and routines, as well as our wishes and desires, are exposed to the laws of mathematical calculation.
The idea of "controlled" machines is being replaced by that of machines and devices that upset not only the nature of the interactions binding us to them, but also the way in which we experience the world and the way in which we work.
Presenting the digital revolution at once as the antidote and the poison, neither taking sides with the technophobe nor the technophile, this exhibition sets out to highlight the unsettling oscillation and intermittences characterising these transitional times. It takes the form of a panorama of existing scenarios, divided into six snapshots, each depicted as a phase in our changing emotions towards to automation, ranging from detestation to admiration.
The emerging questions work explicitly and pragmatically to create a tension between our relationship to control, autonomy and emancipation and our capacity for resilience and imagination.
